Requests for Funding
Letter from Wendy Bertrand, PTO President:

At our annual budget meeting back in November, the PTO looked at our monies for individual school funding. Like most organizations, those available funds were down this year. In an effort to help funnel as much money as possible DIRECTLY into classrooms, the PTO voted to make some funds available DIRECTLY to TEACHERS at all 4 schools. Teachers districtwide were let know of monies available to them for projects, activities or materials that they have always wanted/needed but have never had money for in the budget. Teachers interested in applying for some of this funding filled out "Request for Funding"(RFF)forms to the PTO explaining what project/activitiy/materials they wanted to bring to their classroom(s), how it would enhance their students learning, etc. At our meeting on Monday night these 21 requests were presented(2 teachers even came to the meeting and presented in person!) and voted upon by the PTO membership in attendance. These funds are now immedialtey available to the chosen teachers and projects. We wanted to share with you the projects/supplies chosen for funding:

The Primary School RFF's funded:
--Grade 1 Math Supplies
--OT supplies
--Kindergarten Math supplies
-- Grade 2 Solar System Unit Supplies

TC Passios RFF's Funded:
--Grade 3 History of Turkey Hills walking tour and project
--Grade 4 "Six Traits of Literature" Library
-- Grade 5 Project Loosestrife

THMS RFF's Funded:
--Health DVDs and curriculum
--Grade 8 Math Team Graphing Calculators

LHS:
--Spanish Foreign Language vocabulary supplies and games
--Science Dept. Water Distiallation System,
--Latin Language Speaker and forum

The number and scope of projects we were able to fund at each school varied becuase of the amount funding being requested for each project or supplies. The complete list of RFF's submitted and scope of the projects is listed on our website at www.lunenburgpto.org. ALSO, the RFF's not voted to be funded are listed on our website as part of the teacher wish lists so if any families feel they want to contribute to a particular project or needed supplies they have the opportunity to do so. The decisions were not easy ones but I know all those who attended Monday night's meeting felt good about what was chosen. On a personal note, we wished we could have funded all 21 RFFs we received. Many of us have been involved in PTO for many years and I know most felt it was one of the more rewarding evenings we have had as part of this organization. It does not get much better than being right in the middle of helping our teachers implement new, creative projects and/or get the supplies they so desperately need to help run their classrooms more effectively and help engage our kids at a deeper level of learning. The excited and grateful emails I received yesterday from the teachers who were awarded funding for their projects was just wonderful. Special thanks to those members who came and reviewed the RFF's and worked together in the voting process.
